I was born and raised in Milwaukee WI although I have lived in Texas and California.
I studied drawing and oil painting in classes at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; color theory, design, painting, and drawing at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA; and drawing and painting theories and techniques in private lessons in Austin, TX.
I was advised to develop my own style while at the University in Milwaukee; my paintings didn’t look like anyone else’s. I am basically a self-taught artist who, like others, finds inspiration literally everywhere.
All the styles of painting I use are reflections of my inner growth and continued search for “spirit” in life. Some paintings are difficult to produce as I look for details to continue the expression, while others just appear on the canvas.
Bright colors and geometric shapes engage me on a spiritual level - the “what if” level that is the “what is” level of my internal sight. My growth as a person is here, in fragments of life such as a rock, or a flower; all are amazing to me. Circles or triangles are abstract concepts, simple connections of lines, and are simply used to identify and define space for a moment in time.
I use oils and glazes because that’s where I started, and it came easily to me. It is also where I feel most comfortable.
